After some days of work on my Visa to the States, people in the organization that invited me changed their minds.
Why?
Because they think I am “anti-Semitic”
:*)
How can I be “anti-Semitic” when I am Palestinian?
I mean… I AM Semitic…
Fun Fact of the Day: Arabs ARE Semitic
Another Fun Fact: When you search for the meaning of Semitic in the dictionary, you’ll find “Arabs and Jews”.
So yeah, I spent something like 15 minutes on the phone with that nice dude trying to explain why his organization isn’t going to invite me, and isn’t going to mention my name!
Me: But, I mean, what is the link between Semitic(ism) and my presentation? I was supposed to be covering some topics about Iraq, about the NGO that I was leading and about my thesis that I submitted under the title “post war reconstruction in Iraq”.
Him: you know, there are cultural differences about things that you can say in the middle east, an things that you can blab la blab la
Me: I know I know, but I still can’t see the link… but how do you think I am “Anti-Semitic”?
Him: Because you use the word “Zionists” in your blog.
Whooooooa!
When and how did I use the Buzz word?
Even if I did, is it enough reason to discard me and my thoughts?
Should I defend myself all the time and apologize for being Iraqi&Palestinian?
Hmmm, should I tattoo my arm before coming to the States? I *Heart* Semitic people
:*)
The last fun fact for today When you search for the meaning of “Anti-Semitic” in the dictionary, it doesn’t include Anti-Arab.
