These golden arches wish they were like the ones in New Orleans.
There are more than 5000 destroyed houses here.
I didn't mean to look this scary! The lines behind me are those left because of Rita. Katrina brought more than 18 feet of water to this neighborhood.
I went there to work as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. There was more than 1000 volunteers in the "Camp Premier" when I reached there, and they were expecting around 1500 to come in following weeks. Every team of 10 worked on cleaning one house, and this was our house.
Every house in New Orleans and Chalmette tells you its story. Our house says that it was visited by the governmental forces on the 18th of September, and that Zero dead bodies were found in it. Other houses were not as lucky.
There are hundreds of flooded cars around the area. The gossip is that some crooks are buying these cars, "fixing" them, then selling them again. Be careful if you were planning to buy a used car these days, you don't want to end up having a pile of rust as your new wheels.
