Greensburg Reconstruction Campaign
This is an edited version of an email I recieved from Lisa Coss, a local activist in Greensburg, KS:
I just got back from my conferences and am trying to catch up with work but I wanted to take some time and send you some pictures and more information.
The following is a list of the items they are needing:
* Work gloves (all sizes)
* Band-aids
* Antiseptic Hand Cleanser
* Face Masks
* Buy Spray
* Sunscreen
* Aspirin
* Tylenol
* Trash bags
* Plastic Storage Containers with lids
* Duck tape
* Magic Markers
* Paper Towels
* Handy Wipes
* Toilet paper
* Salt & pepper
* Tooth brushes
* Brooms/Push brooms
* Rags
* Any other basic need items
If people would like to donate items like those you could send them to the American Red Cross - Cannonball trail Chapter:
The American Red Cross
114 N Main, Suite B
Pratt, KS 67124
As for the accommodations there isn’t anything in place yet for that. Everything is pretty much full for the time being. So the City of Pratt is being the central location for any people interested in coming down they could find accommodations for them. So if there are individuals that want to come down if they just want to let me know I could get all the information ready for them.
As for the donations they can write a check to:
the South Central Community Foundation: the future fund
PO Box 8624
Pratt, KS 67124
Or on-line at www.southcentralcommunityfoundation.com
this money is going directly to rebuilding projects in Greensburg when I spoke to the President of the bank his interest was in re-building the primary aspects of the community being the school, hospital, etc.
The Executive Director said the following:
Checks should be made payable to "South Central Community Foundation" with a memo to "Greensburg Future Fund." Donors can earmark the contributions for "education," "health care" or "community rebuilding."
This is an interview I had with the Executive Director so you can listen to what they are interested in doing:
Our local newspaper is www.pratttribune.com and they have an e-edition of the newspaper once you get to that web-site you can click on visit our e-edition icon and it will let you see the paper as it is printed for free on-line.
Well let me know what you think!
To support Lisa and other activists and residents of Greensburg, I suggest the following:
1- Send donaions to the South Central Community Foundation or any other Authorized Monetary Funds, or send material donations to their local Red Cross chapter or other relief organizations.
2- Send a letter to your governor asking to support the Kansas Govorner's demands to bring the National Guards home from Iraq so they can do the job they signed up for. Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and several senior National Guard officers have charged that the deployment of key equipment to Iraq has slowed the state's response to the tornado that destroyed the prairie town of Greensburg. You can get your governor's address and email from here.
