same old strategy, same old failure
There is a new wave of news and official announcements regarding the President's "new strategy" to possible troop cut in Iraq, while facts indicate that all what the president is planning to do is to reduce the troops presence to the same levels maintained before the surge.
The U.S. public were against the surge before it began, not because they were against a solution for Iraq, but because they realize that there is no military solution for the complicated situation in Iraq. While the calls for withdrawing all the U.S. troops and private contractors were rising, the president decided, against the will of the majority of Americans and Iraqis, to send more troops to Iraq.
The current decision of troop level reduction is a small technical move that had to be taken anyway because the Pentagon has announced that the current "surge" of troops level can't be maintained longer than next spring. The new presidential announcement is in no way a "new strategy".
It seems like things are going to be really ugly within the next few months, and casualties from all sides will increase, unless the bush administration understands there is no way out of the mess in Iraq other than negotiating a complete withdrawal with all parties of conflict (represented by the elected Iraqi Council of Representatives)
